- Description:
A vintage pistol carbine. This piece was originally built as a flint lock and later covnerted to percussion. The 14" cannon barrel shows heavy multi groove rifled bore of approximately 60 caliber. The finish on the barrel shows a raised pattern and the remnants of silver wire. The escutcheon and the front sight base show the removal of metal (probably a gold post and crest from the escutcheon) . The silver side plates show an engraved cannon and workers. The lock, tang and remaining fixtures show fine engraving associated with a wealthy owner . The pistol shows an overall length of 21 1/2". The quick turn off butt is 8 1/2" with an extended tang, leaf and hunting dog engraved. The stock was built with a bullet or patch trap with a sliding wood cover. The butt attaches solidly to the pistol grip. The rod is a modern replacement. The percussion blow plug is gold. Our best assumption is that this pistol carbine originated from Eastern Europe.
