  SN 15649 is a scarce antique 1878 in 476 Eley.  The 5 1/2" barrel shows the 14 Pall Mall London depot address.  The bore rates at bright very good with sound rifling.  This piece shows an overall dull finish with scattered areas of light pitting.  476 caliber is stamped on the left trigger guard.  The grips are original to the gun and remain in sound condition.  The barrel and cylinder show the English import proofs.  The cylinder shows a SN 89621.  The action is sound and the lockup is tight.  The overall finish reflects usage in a tropical area.  This revolver was probably acquired by an officer based on the 476 caliber which was the military cartridge at that time.  Antique, no license required.
