- Description:
This item SN 17448 is a relatively scarce and uncommon dual ignition carbine built post civil war. The 1864 pattern is marked on the left side of the hamme,r patented by Merwin & Bray and built by Ballard circa 1865. The top of the hammer fires a 44 caliber rim fire cartridge. If the carbine is not loaded with a cartridge, the lower part of the hammer can hit a percussion cap and discharge a cartridge. This piece shows a 22" barrel with a bright excellent, rifled bore. This example shows a very good plus brown/black barrel finish and a mottled grey case finish receiver. The action remains sound. This carbine is unique in that it stratles the percussion/cartridge era. Antique status and not subject to permit to purchase or own. Reference: Flaydermabn 5D-085.
