  • Description:

SN 306043 is an out of a closet Model 99G in 30-30.  This Savage shows a 22" take down barrel with a bright excellent bore.  The serial numbers on the barrel, forewood, butt and action are all matching.  The wood shows original factory finish.  The base of the barrel adjoining the action shows a clear crisp MP mark. See page 51, photo 96 of "Arms & Accoutrments of the Mounted Police" by Donald J. Klancher.  The barrel is mounted with the correct original sights.  The receiver shows all of the original factory blue with only light staining on the sides of the receiver.  The lever shows 95% of its original factory case colors.  As per the serial listing, on page 134 of "Savage 99 Rifles" by David Royal, this rifle was built in 1928, one of 12000 built in that year.  Our understanding is that these Savage rifles were acquired for use by the Northern detachments especially in the North West Territories/Yukon. etc.  We have examined a few MP marked Savage 99 carbines over the years.  The ones that we previously encountered mostly showed obvious usage.  We understand that the Savages were purchased from the T. Eaton Company by the Mounted Police circa 1928. The prior owner of ths rifle indicated that this rifle was purchased from a senior officer who served in a number of Northern detachments.  This collector grade Savage should make a nice addition to a Savage 99 or Mounted Police collection.  Non restricted status.
