- Description:
This round was found in a large chest of mixed cartridges at GE Fulton (Gunmakers) of Bisley in England sometime between 1956 and 1961. I have no reason to believe that it is anything but a genuine 303 MKII special round made in Kirkee Arsenal in Poopa, India around 1896 and used on the North West Frontier with great effect in the Tirah campaign of 1898. MKII special rounds with a soft point RN bullet were only made at Dum Dum Arsenal, Calcutta, Kirkee Arsenal, Poona and at Woolwich Arsenal in London. Dum Dum bullets were outlawed by the Hague Convention in 1899.
