  • Description:

We are pleased to offer a first year production Colt 1911, 45 auto pistol.  This pistol is noted in the H.D. Godard book "The Government Models " page 250.  The shipping date was Nov. 7th ,1912.  Col. W.C. Skinner was the president of Colt from 1909 to 1911 and from 1916 to 1921.  It was Skinner and John Browning who guided the Colt 1911 pistol to become the foremost military pistol.  The Colt shipping shows the Colt 1911, SN C 1580, to Col. W.C. Skinner.   This pistol was gifted by Skinner to Jas E.Emery. This Colt shows all of it's original early features for a Commercial 1911 ie. the government model stamped on the right side of the frame and the serial on the left, the small SN ,C1580, the circle around the Colt pony and the early slide markings only found on SN C1 to C2250.  This pistol shows its obvious usage with approximately 65% of it's original finish.  There is light pitting and staining on the left edge of the slide.  The left frame shows scratched initials and rubbed marks.  The grips are original but show the obvious usage.  Despite the condition this 1st year production Colt as gifted by  Skinner remains as a very desireable 1911  with only 1899 pieces built in 1912.  This pistol traveled to Canada at some point in time and was sold in the 1980's to the former owner. A letter should be acquired for this 1911.
