SN 62888 is a Model 78 bayonet,( For ref: items 44, 433 & 943 on pgs 172-173 of "Bayonets of the World" by Kiesling). The top of the blade shows 1880 production and is in overall sound condition, with corrosion of the spring. A nice example of the 1878 that was probaly built in Germany.
