- Description:
Antique Brunswick military rifle, Enfield lock dated 1851 and crown VR marked. This example shows a bright excellent plus bore and 95% original blue on the barrel. The wood shows normal usage marks but remains in above average condition. All of the brass fittings are original and in excellent condition. This example was refurbished at Pimlico in 1860. The marking is over stamped over the original cartouche. To the left is the marking I.C.R. and 2 (second class) The rifle comes with a scarce uncommon bore plug. The original bayonet shows clear Enfield crown VR markings and is regiment marked B over 37. The bayonet fits the rifle perfectly and appears to have been with the rifle for an extended period of time. The interesting fact with this piece is it's possible background history. This Brunswick was shipped to Canada after refurbishment. As per information in "Defending the Dominion",there were Brunswick rifles with various units in Quebec and Ontario. One was the Irish Rangers. This Brunswick is a better than average example with it's bayonet. An excellent plus piece for the British/Canadian military collection.
