  • Description:

We are pleased to offer a very scarce WW1 Trench Mortar or mini artillery piece.  We have not been able to identify the actual manufacturer or model of this unique WW1 weapon.  We do know that this is one of the items as brought to Canada by the C.E.F. at the end of WW1.  Many years ago it was traded to the former owner who is new deceased.  This piece is approximatley 43 MM or 1 & 5/8 " bore in a 25 1/2" barrel.  The base of the barrel shows a long removed breech and or firing mechanism. The barrel unit is secured by two brass collars and wing nuts to the upper carriage.  There is an elevation wheel mounted on the right side which allows the barrel to be elevated to approximately 75% degrees.  The carriage/barrel unit is mounted on a steel base that is approximately 30" long, 21" across the back end and tapering to 10" at the front.  The metal shows areas of pitting but is totally intact.  The barrel elevator work and functions perfectly.  The barrel unit and carriage swivels and traverses approximately 25 degrees to either side.  The former owner was told that this item was German yet there are no marks that substantiate this.  This unique trench weapon remains in excellent condition for its age and usage.  A piece for the serious WW1 or military collector.  I do not think there is another example in any Canadian Collection.  Not subject to restrictions.
