  • Description:

1886 Rifle SN 88387 built in 1894.  This piece shows a round 26" barrel, caliber 40-82 with a bright excellent bore.  The barrel appears to have been improperly cleaned by a prior owner. The barrel markings remain clear & crisp. The front sight is a correct Lyman's Patt. improved hunting front sight(aug/31/86) which was available for all models of the 1886.seePage 141 of the Winchester Sight book. The rear sight is a correct Winchester 24C with the proper elevator. See page 83 of the above reference. The magazine tube is complete but shows an old refinish.   The receiver shows  traces of case color as does the hammer.  Excellent original thin blue on the bolt with nice but fading case color on the lever.  The wood is very good , sound,  and shows most of its original finish on the butt stock.  The wrist on the right side shows what we presume the initials of the original owner. The forewood shows evidence of a light sanding and added oil finish.  A nice representative  1886. This item comes with a Cody information sheet shipped May 18, 1894 returned by Boston dealer William Read in 1896.
