  • Description:

Winchester Model 1876 SN 10250 was built in 1880.  This rifle is an Express rifle in 50-95 caliber.  This rifle was developed to meet the demands of hunters in Africa, India and the Western USA. The 1876 Model was built from March 1879 to the 15th of March 1899 when the last 50 caliber was shipped.  There were a total of 3, 310 Express rifles built and only 873 26" round barrels as is this example.  This rifle is mounted with an ivory bead front sight and a sporting leaf rear sight.  The rifle also shows a tang sight with a patten date of Jan 29/79.  The barrel shows the King's improvement marking and the Winchester address ahead of the rear sight.  50 caliber Express is marked on the barrel and on the dust cover,  The brass lifter is marked 50-95.  The bore shows light pitting with sound rifling and is bright.  The metal finish is overall brown/grey, overall smooth and devoid of any pitting.  This rifle was not one of the Express rifles that were shipped to England as it shows no English or foreign proofs.  The wood is original and remains in sound condition.  There is a usage gauge on the right front forend and a small splint repair on the left side of the butt below the hammer.  Overall, this is a very sound example of a scarce Winchester Express rifle.  The factory information confirms 50 Ex, round barrel 26" plain trigger in warehouse Dec. 30, 1880 and shipped Dec.31 order # 23675. Cody fact sheet included.
