- Description:
Remington built Springfield M 1903 A4 Sniper rifle. SN 3420040. This rifle remains in excellent plus condition and was probably sold by the DCM in the U.S.A. For reference please refer to" U.S. Military Bolt Action Rifles" by Bruce N. Canfield, page 233 to 235. As noted on page 235, "virtually all of these rifles were sold without telescopes." This example shows 98% all original finish, bright excellent plus bore and all original blue on the bolt, barrel and receiver. This rifle is only 2933 serial numbers from the example as photographed in the aforesaid refernce on page 233. Our example shows all crisp original stamping RA/dated 12/43,the correct "03-A3" markings offset on the left of the receiver ring. All the component parts show the R (Remington marks). The scope mount shows the "Redfield marking. The bolt is correctly altered and "R" marked as illustrated. The wood remains in excellent condition with raised grain and no added finish. The stock is devoid of the normal inspector symbols which suggests that the rifle was stocked at the time of sale by (DCM) or the (CMP) sales programs . The stock also shows a fill in knotch ahead of the bolt cut which appears to be a quality repair. The scope is a Weaver Model 330 which is a Parkerized scope. This piece shows a serial # 26732 stamped on the right rear side. The scope shows bright clear optics and a greenish Parkerized finish very similar to the nose cap. As Canfield points out the vast majority of the 1903 A4 snipers have added scopes. The scope on this rifle"33OC, is essestially the same scope made directly under the government contract", page 270 aforesaid . See also page 96 & 98 of "The Complete Book of U.S. Sniping "by Peter R. Senich. The variation of markings are noted, including the legend on the included scope. The rifle is mounted with a 1944 dated U.S. issue sling. This item also comes with a 1951 dated U.S. military parachutist weapons case. This piece is all original and remains in excellent condition. Photocopies of the refenced pages are included with the item, as well as a TM manual. This item is an excellent example of a WW2 U.S. sniper.
