  • Description:

Antique original India Pattern Brown Bess built by Manton for the East India Co.  This original flint shows the EIG 1801 dated lock.  The lock is original flint.  Ahead of the Manton name is the remnants of a small crown British Ordnance inspector mark which would indicate that this musket would be one of the thousands of EIC muskets turned over to the crown in the period from 1794 to 1802.  This Bess shows a 39 3/4" barrel with a good bore. The wood is sound but shows a slightly shaved wrist and an incorrect replaced side plate.  Despite the above any of the transferred East India Company muskets are quite scarce.  This musket comes with an original and correct EIC bayonet showing the remnants of a name and the EIC heart logo.
