  • Description:

Sn3227315 is a WW2 Remington Model 1903 built in October 1942 for the U.S. Military.  This Model 1903 is more interesting as it has some less common paper work related to the rifle and it's history.  This rifle shows the RE flaming bomb and 10-42 date on the barrel.  The receiver ring show the clear U.S. 1903 markings and the original Parkerized receiver and bolt finish.  The front sight retains its original Remington marked R and U.S. flaming bomb marks.  The rifle shows its' correct milled floor plate and is mounted with its' correct leather sling and oiler in the butt trap. The bore rates at bright excellent. The only negative factor to this piece is the hand rubbed oil finished stock which was a procedure followed by many of the earlier collectors in the 1950's.  There remains a trace of the P proof and a ghost of the inspector marks above the trigger.  Otherwise, this is an above average example of a 1903.  Included with this rifle is the DCM customer receipt dated April 19, 1950 to its' former owner, Maurice Turmel of Methuen Mass., cost $17.85 including shipping.  Also included is an original hand written note from the owner's widow Dec/8/1976 to her son Maurice P. Turmel of Victoria B.C. for this rifle SN 3227315.  In addition is an original copy of the 1911 U.S. booklet on the 1903 rifle. This rifle also came with a WW2 canvas rifle case.  The case was originally issued to and stenciled Co.B 182. Inf. The 182 is one of the obvious infantry units in the U.S. Army and was a unit that saw significant fighting in the Pacific during WW2.In addition to the stencil the case is ink marked with the original owner's name, M. Turmel HQ 211 FA. This might suggest "brought back" by him.  This is a unique item, with the papers and a named and unit marked rifle case.
