  • Description:

Winchester pre WW2 Model 70 in 22 Hornet.  This rifle was built in 1941 prior to the U.S. entry into WW2.  This rifle shows  the right barrel marking-patented. See page 25 of "The Riflemans Rifle" by Roger Rule.  This and all the 22 Hornet barrels were built with chrome molybelenum steel.  This example retains the original sights and has survied in its' original pre war configeration.  It has 2 factory holes in the receiver ring, original sights, swivels, bolt and steel pad.  This has seen obvious usage but remains as a less than common 22 Hornet rifle. The 22 Hornet was introduced in 1936.  This piece appears to have been built in January of 1941.  There were a total of only 20,306 Hornets built from 1936 to 1954. This rifle shows a bright excellent bore.  The receiver and bolt show all original finish.  The barrel shows clear crisp markings and proofs but has had some added finish but not polished.  The wood is all original but shows some added oil finish.  A less than common pre war Winchester Model 70 rifle for the shooter or collector.  The best reference for this scarce rifle is the aforementioned book by Roger Rule.
