  • Description:

Antique U.S. Plains rifle with a 37 1/2" barrel in 41 caliber.  This percussion rifle shows a lock named to Jos Golcher.  A number of similar Plains rifles appear in the mid west but there is very little actual information on the maker.  The barrel is not marked.  There is also a question if Golcher was an English lock maker or an American.  This lock shows a hunter and a stag on the tail.  This full stock rifle was built in the period between the 1830's to the 1850's.  The bore shows very good plus rifling.  The rifle shows a rear set trigger and is mechanically sound.  The percussion nipple drum shows a clean out screw.  The hammer appears to be original to the rifle showing similar engraving to the lock.  The wood is original but shows edge repairs to the forestock.  An attractive and excellent example of a Plains rifle that is mechanically sound.
