    1561 is a 10 gauge,black powder, Damascus barreled market gun built and or retailed by the leading Nova Scotia family of gunmakers.  This example is marked T.J. Egan on the lock.  The barrel is marked London fine twist.  T.J. Egan was recorded as a gunmaker and taxidermist at 177 Lower Water Street, Halifax in 1876.  See "The Canadian Gunsmiths-1608-1900 "by James Gooding at page 90.  This market gun shows a 42", 10 gauge, 3" chamber barrel and an overall length of 59".  The bore rates as bright very good with staining. Very good Damascus pattern barrel finish.  Sound action and wood showing normal usage.  A scarcer example of a Nova Scotia market gun.(Non Restricted) Note this gun is not designed to fire modern smokeless ammunition.
