  • Description:

We are pleased to offer one of the scarcer European Military Carbines.  This piece is a 1886 built Kropatschek carbine.  This example shows the 20 1/2" barrel with a bright but corroded bore.  The SN B 948 is on the receiver and barrel.  As with most of the Steyr/Kropatscheks the bolt and other small parts are not matching. The carbine is the most scarce of the 4 variations of this military rifle.  It is reported that only 4000 carbines were ordered and built by Steyr.  This piece shows a sound working action and a better than average condition both wood and metal.  This piece is complete with the exception of the magazine tube which is not present.  The plunger, follower and mag spring are there.  Note the 71/84 Mauser tube is slightly less in diameter.  It would not be that difficult for a gunsmith to fabricate a correct tube.  This piece comes with its' original sights, rod and front band/bayonet stud. A very scarce carbine for the Mauser/military rifle collector.  This piece is in better than average condition considering its' colonial African Service.
