• Description:

  SN 251475 is a U.S. Model 1879 Trapdoor carbine.  (1879-1885).  The 22 " barrel shows a bright excellent bore in 45-70 caliber.  This model shows the 1873 date on the breechblock which is correct for the 1879.  The lock shows U.S. Springfield forward of the Eagle.  The barrel shows the correct proofs.  The metal is overall grey.  The barrel is mounted with a C (Carbine rear site).  The wood is sound with barley visible SWP cartouche the P firing proof.  There is a metal tag below the saddle bar #1852 which may be a National Guard inventory number.  The buttplate tang shows the US and a stamped S.C. which we presumeis the South Carolina National Guard.  This is a very good representative Trapdoor carbine from the Indian war period.
