  • Description:

U.S. Civil war rifle-musket in as issued and used condition.  This example is one of the contract muskets built for the Federal Government.  Savage built 25, 520 between 1862 and 1864.  The lock is dated 1863 and showing the U.S. Eagle and Savage R.F.A.Co., Middletown, Conn marking.  This piece is all complete and original except for a modern tulip ramrod.  The metal shows pitting in the area of the breech, otherwise the metal is smooth with an aged petina finish.  The wood is very sound with no cracks or repairs.  The faint remnants of the US inspectors mark is visible on the left stock flat. The bore shows overall corrosion but sound shootable rifling.  A good to very good example of a Savage contract Civil War 1861.
