  • Description:

SN 1211 is a BSA built Long Lee Enfield dated 1896.  This is one of the 13,000 rifles that were part of the Canadian Militia rifles as purchased from Britian. This rifle show the Canadian M&D marking on the butt.  This rifle was sourced out of a small PEI collection.  In addition ,the butt is marked numerous times with the name that appears to be W.C. Chandler.  The rifle came with its brass nose cap marked 82 over 66.  This indicates the 82nd Battalion of infantry HQ's Charlottetown the 66 being the issue number. This example has matching bolt, receiver barrel and rear sight.  The metal shows an even dull blue turning plum metal finish with its original bolt cover, long range volley sights, swivels and magazine including the mag link.  The bore shows the obvious corrosion related to the primers of the era, but still retains very good rifling and is shootable. The name,, WC Chandler, is also struck numerous times on the butt plate tang.  The wood is sound and complete and rates very good to excellent with clear crisp markings and proofs.  The overall appearance of this rifle indicates that it was stored for an extended period of time.  The name, Chandler,is a well known family name in Prince Edward Island.  Any unit or identified Long Lee's are a relatively scarce and one to a very small unit such as the 82 Battalion is a very scarce item.
