  • Description:

An exceptional Indian Trade Gun built by Ketland Walker & Co London.  This partnership of Thomas Ketland and William Walker operated from Weaman Row from 1799 to 1812.  This exceptional example of an Indian Trade gun shows all of the features associated with the classic trade gun,  48 1/2" barrel in 65 caliber and an overall length of 64".  The barrel shows the early sitting fox and the crown broad arrow mark. This trade gun is one that was purchased by the crown for the purpose of a gift to the Indians on completion of Treaties or Agreements.  The gun shows an excellent original stock with remnants of the original finish with the fox symbol or the right side of the butt and the oversize triggerguard.  A WO mark remains at the base of the same.  The brass fittings and serpent side plate are all original and remain in above average condition.  This piece is fitted with its' original brass buttplate mounted with 8 square headed iron nails.  This presentation gun was sourced out of Quebec by the former owner.  This gun remains in what is best described as exceptional condition.  The only non original part appears to be a replaced top jaw screw which shows a smaller head than the original.  An original flint example which is as good as any in the museum of the fur trade.
