  • Description:

An interesting circa 1800 English volunteer sword.  This sword shows a blued and gilt blade very similar to the pattern 1796 infantry officer's sword.  The blade shows a single edge, fullered from the shoulder to point 31", approximately 1 1/8" at the shoulder and an overall length of approximately 37". The right base of the blade shows gilding marked I broad arrow S over (SHV?). The hilt is silver plated brass.  The grips are ebony and are checkered.  An interesting and less then common British military sword.  The stamping is partially obscured but it appears to be SHV which would be the Somerset House Volunteers (1803-1815). Ref erence see "British Cut and Thrust Weapons "by John Wilkinson-Latham, pages 38 to 63.
