  • Description:

Swiss Model 1842 percussion service rifle converted to cartridge.  The Swiss used a forward hinged trapdoor similar to the U.S. trapdoor.  This resulted in the Model 1867 Milbank Amsler rifle.  This was the first Swiss cartridge rifle prior to the Peabody and the Vetterli.  This example shows a 38 1/2 barrel .74 caliber with a bright very good plus to excellent rifled bore .  All parts are matching 971.  All metal is correctly in the white . The barrel is marked 22 with a crest and #3159.  The metal is sound with some pitting on the bands, side and buttplate and triggerguard to barrel and is clean.  The name and marking on the lock plate are oblitereated.  This may have occured during the conversion.  This piece comes with an original bayonet as built for this musket .  The lower band spring is broken but remains in place.  A scarce conversion in Canada.
