Snider Commercial Hunting Rifle By E. Owen
- Licensing Category: Antique
- Maker:
- Model: Snider
- Caliber/Gauge: .577
- Description:
Commerical built Snider rifle by a lesser known firearms maker/gunsmith Edward Owen Co Birmingham. This Snider appears to have been built from scratch, not a refabrication and reworking of military parts. The action was built by BSA and is the later MKIII with locking latch. The barrel is 28 1/2" mounted with a raised block front site and a small commerical carbine style rear 800 yard site. The bore shows 6 grooves with slight corrosion and appears to be very shootable. The lock is of the European style and not a reworked military part. The triggerguard and buttplate are steel . The above fixtures all show fine engraving as does the hammer and tang. The rifle is stocked in black walnut; is sound and shows obvious wear to the checkering. Basically, this piece appears to be a custom one of commerical Snider that weighs in at 6.6 pounds . A Snider that could still be used as a big bore classic hunting rifle. (Antique)
