  • Description:

SN 9077 is an above average example of the Sharps & Hankins Cavalry Carbine.  Frank Sellers in his book" Sharps Rifles" at page 173 indicated 500 produced.  Flayderman indicated 1000.  Sellers recorded the order for the 3rd New York Cavalry. Flayderman indicated the 11th New York.  This might suggest confusion by the latter with the issue of the 1855 carbines and rifles to CO K of the 11th New York.  Regardless of the information difference the S & H Cavalry Carbine is a very scarce carbine. The example as offered remains in excellent condition.  This example shows matching serial numbers 9077 and matching assembly No 16 on the marked parts.  The receiver shows the remnants of case color and clear sharp marking on both sides.  The barrel shows a bright excellent plus bore and remants of its' original nickel plate.  (See Sellers reference above) This piece also shows the navy inspectors marking P over WCW on the left side of the frame.  The serial numbers of these carbines vary from 300 up and are often mixed with the Model 1861 rifle numbers.  This carbine is complete and original and remains in above average condtiion .  Best described as scarce if not rare.
