• Description:

  SN 168607 is a Savage 1899-D military musket.  This is one of the 827 muskets as sold to the Montreal Home Guard in 1914. This unit was a private home guard unit created by wealthy Montreal residents and modeled after the home guard or private militia units in England.  We were told that this rifle was used for many years as a hunting rifle in New Brunswick.  Its' usage is reflected by the finish loss on the receiver and the wood.  The action is sound and the 303 Savage bore rates as bright very good to excellent.  The finish rates at about 50% showing normal usage and carry marks.  The butt tang shows the number 607 which a marking affixed by the home guard unit.  An item for the Savage 99 or Canadian Military collector.
