  • Description:

This is an example of a BSA custom sporting rifle built on the action of Lee Metford carbine.  For reference see pages 112 to 117 of the final edition" The Lee-Enfield" by Ian Skennerton.  This example shows the left socket marked No 2 SE (Sporting Rifle) .  The 24.5" barrel is mounted with a ramp front and an African style express rear site.  The knox form shows the BSA logo removal and remarked with the name Andrews.  The bore rates very good with light corrosion and sound rifling.  This piece shows the following features - a wrist safety showing the BSA 1898 patent, its original engraved dust cover and engraved 5 shot magazine.  The socket shows some factory engraving with remnants of gold wash.  The wood shows an ebony or horn cap, pistol grip, butt trap, and the BSA deluxe checkering.  This example shows obvious usage but still remains as a very good example of a BSA trade pattern sporting rifle.  The mag cut-off was probably removed by a prior owner.  The screw remains, so a cut off could be easily reinstalled.
