  • Description:

SN A 29068 is a very interesting and scarce example of an early No 4 rifle.  The socket is marked ROF 41 Fazakerly 1941.  Reference see "The Lee Enfield" Ian Skennerton page 193-195 and chapter 7.  The receiver is scopped out behind the safety and on the left receiver wall.  In addition it retains the specially shaped foresight protector; mag cut off base etc.  This rifle started as a No 1 MK VI and appears to be one of the receiver as supplied to R.O. Fazakerly in 1941 during the rifle shortage at that time period in WW2. It can be noted that the serial # is prefexed with "a" as were the troop trials rifles of the 1930's.  This example shows a matching bolt.  Careful examination of the serial number on the socket might suggest that the original number may have been  A290 with the added digits 68 applied at Fazakerly during the assembly.  This rifle shows a bright excellent bore on the 43 dated and matching barrel.  The bolt head is 0 marked , the belt is early production and matching. The wood is very sound showing normal issue and usage marks. This Lee Enfield is obviously one of the Fazakerly built rifles from 1941.  it is unique as to the retention of so many of the features of the earlier troop trial rifles.  Non Restricted
