  • Description:

This item is a Pattern 1742 Long Land 1st Model Brown Bess built by Farmer, a Birmingham maker who supplied the crown 1742 to 1757.  This musket ,as with the majority of the 1st pattern muskets, was rebuilt at some point in time.  The lock shows age corrosion, the crown, broad arrow proof and 1744 date.  The cock and firzzen appear to be original to the lock.  The barrel is the correct 46" length showing crown and ordnance proofs on the breech and tang.  The frizzen shows refacing during its period of use.  Both the barrel and forestock show extensions from the time that the musket was rebuilt, the barrel 5" and the stock 24". The barrel also shows a reconversion at the breech to flint. This work on many of the earlier muskets is not uncommon.  The non disclosure of this type of work is fraudulent.  The rammer is modern made but is closest to the correct pattern of the time.  This model of musket was the most important weapon of the Seven Years War and the French and Indian Wars in America.  Despite the above noted improvements this is still a collector grade example for any British or colonial collection.  It is not a $15,000 plus valued item but is a collectors example for the price as offered.  Included with this item is a correct bayonet with a 17" blade and 4" socket. The blade is marked crown 6 (1768) period and marked John GH.
