  • Description:

SN117113 is a very interesting and uncommon example of a Canadian built C1 military rifle. This example shows the CAL(Canadian Arsenals Limited) mark on the right side of the receiver.  In addition, there are two crudely oblitereated markings.  The receiver also shows the 1956 date and a serial number 117113.  The left side shows the C1 marking group.  We believe that this 1956 date indicates that this rifle was one of the pre production rifles (test and development) built in 1956.  This example appears to have been reassembled at a later date either at CAL or in a Canadian military arsenal.  The serial # appears to be marked at a later date.  The obliteration of the original marking probably occured at this time.  The photos of the Tool Room guns in M"more on the Fabled FAL" by  Stevens, page 178 show the early prototype features.  This rifle shows many of these pre production features.  Note: page 195 indicates that Canada had produced 16000 rifles by Nov/1957.  In 1956, any production was for the purpose of development and testing only.  Production of the Canadian service rifles began in late 1956.  This example shows the early wood, buttplate, carry handle ,small parts etc.  This is an excellent and scarce piece of Canadian military history that is deactivated and can be purchased and owned without license.
