  • Description:

SN 1374 is a Lee Enfield New Zealand carbine.  This scarce Enfield is one of only 1500 built on a specific contract for New Zealand.  The example would be one of a lot imported into Canada by International Firearms, Montreal in the late 1960's or early 1970's.  This carbine was built to take the 1888 pattern bayonet.  Reference- see page 453 of "The Lee Enfield" ,the final edition. This example is matching including the rear sight.  The right side of the socket shows the NZ marking, the NZ registration #1178 and the 1903 issue date. The finish is all original blue with clear Enfield and WZ markings. As with the majority of these carbines it was downgraded to trainer or cadet status and is DP marked.  The blue rates at 90%.  The bore shows corrosion but sound shootable rifling.  The wood is sound with a strong trace of original finish.  The swivel on the butt is a commercial replacement.  One of the scarcest variation of the Lee Enfield carbines, these carbines were acquired and used in the Boer War and later by police and cadets. We can also note that the bolt was renumbered at some time and that the top guard may be a New Zealand replacement.
