Colt Lightning Rifle Small Frame Built 1900
- Licensing Category: Non-restricted
- Maker: Colt
- Caliber/Gauge: .22
Sn 48894 is an exceptional example of the small frame lightning rifle . Caliber is 22 short and long, 24" tapered octagon barrel with a bright very good barrel. As with any of the early 22 caliber weapons, the barrels usually show some corrossion due to the cartridges at the time. We have test fired this piece and can report that it functions perfectly and holds a very tight group. The barrel is mounted with an ivory bead Beech front sight. The rear sight was removed and replaced with a tang sight. The barrel and tube show 95% plus original blue and clear stampings. The frame shows 85% blue with most loss at the carry point (Top edge on the right side; the trigger guard and bottom tang). The wood remains in excellent condition with no breaks, cracks or repairs. Normal usage marks, most oriignal finish and original butt plate. One of these rifles is difficult to find in this market, in this condition. The case color remains in place on the hammer. This rifle was built in 1900. An above average Colt Lightning especially in 22 caliber that obviously saw far more usage than the larger frame Lightnings.
