  • Description:

London made pair of 19th century binoculars (field glasses). These glasses show excellent clear optics and original pigskin with a repaired join to the skin on one side.  Excellent plus original enamel paint over the brass.  Engraved maker's name on one barrel, London on the other.  These are typical of glasses carried by military officers in the Victorian era.  The cover shows a brass field piece indicating ownership by an artillery officer.  The case shows nickel silver fittings.  Attached is an original 2" wide typical carry strap of the era.  This item was sourced out of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.  There was a small coastal defence battery in Yarmouth circa 1855 (Yarmouth Battery, Garrison Arty).  An excellent example missing the closure strap on the case.
