  • Description:

English Infantry Officers Pattern 1845 sword and scabbard.  Blade is 32 1/4" , flat top blade and deep fuller extending to 10" from the spear point.  This sword is post 1854 as it shows a solid guard without the hinged portion.  Although this pattern was not a great fighting sword it saw extended use through all of the Victorian campaigns from the Crimea, India Mutiny, Zulu war, Afghan & numerous others.  This piece show the Victoria cypher on the guard.  The blade remains bright very good with some very slight corrosion at the tip.  The grip shows sound wire and fishskin cover. The blade shows no embellishment, makers name or inspector marks.  This example was intended as an officers field or fighting sword.  It also may have been a sword from the ranks of the NS or NB militia. The original scabbard shows sound leather and stitching. The locket, mouthpiece and middle band are sound with minor usage marks.  The brass shows a number of usage dents and an old period repair.
